In the SDK you can clearly see other alien models in this same style. I'd guess that this is just a port of a model from the Unreal mod or a very old model used before a style change. I really doubt we're going to see it used in its current form. My guess is that if Valve releases any more content we'll see a reskinned or remodelled and better animated version of it.
