A Mender (formerly named Shaman) uses a healing beam, like a medic. It will follow other aliens around and switch targets based on whichever has taken the most damage. Since the Mender shares the same color palette and design style of enemies included in the final version of Alien Swarm Source, it is not considered to be one of the Beta Aliens.

- Shamans were an unused enemy in the SDK.
- Shamans were renamed to Menders in an update to the beta version in February 2023.
- Since Lana's Escape was added to Alien Swarm Reactive Drops official list of campaigns they are finally used in the latest Alien Swarm game.
- For a long time they weren't fully animated.
Console command[]
When spawned in game via the asw_ent_create asw_shaman command, it will heal every alien except for other Menders. The Mender will not run unless it is trying to chase another alien to heal it.
